Directions for Attaching Magnetic Clasps to Jewelry
Here is how I attach the line to the magnetic clasp without loops.
I leave the line on the spool and string the necklace, bracelet, or anklet. When done I make sure that I have the two correct ends of the clasp rather than both going in the same direction. You’ll notice that there is a large hole and a small hole. Both small holes should be facing out. This is the correct position when attached to your piece of jewelry. Both large holes could face out and you would still have correct magnetic alignment, but this would not be the way it is attached to the jewelry. It is the small hole that will go against your work with the large holes magnetically attached to each other. What you don’t want is one small hole out and one large hole in. If this is the case, then when you attach the ends to your jewelry, instead of attaching, they will repel, and unless you use the safe guards listed later so this does not happen, you will say bad words and have to cut your jewelry apart and start all over.
First, take the magnet and slide it on your line with the small hole first – large hole out. If you are using magnetic beads, and the clasp “bounces” and does not attach to the beads, then take this end of the clasp off and use the other end. It will not “bounce”. This does not happen often, Make a simple over hand single knot. Pull the knot tight using a pair of pliers (needle nose, rosary nose, or flat nose) leaving the knot on the “outside” of the magnetic clasp for now. Snip it within 1/8 inch of the knot. Burn end with lighter as close to the knot as possible without disturbing the knot. This keeps the knot from slipping and the end inside the hole in the clasp. Now pull the knot inside the hole!
Now attach the other end of the magnetic clasp to the end that is now attached to the jewelry. You’re going to do this for several reasons. To make sure that you still have the correct corresponding magnetic clasp, so that when you go to get it for the other end, you know exactly where it is, and because when you measure your work, that end can make a big difference. It can make the difference between a 7” bracelet and a 7.25” inch bracelet?
Take and slide all of the beads down to the attached magnetic clasp, still holding the end attached to the spool. Pull the line tight, attaching the hemostats just above the last bead. It will be so tight that you will not be able to wear it this way, because it won’t curl around your wrist. You neither want it too lose so that you have line showing. A very small amount of line showing is alright because, if you are using the special line that I get imported from Germany, after wearing it, it will take up this small slack. If you use square beads, you’ll need more slack, but not too much, because square beads or cubes, take up less room when hanging straight then when in a circle as in a necklace or bracelet. This part may take some practice, but really is fairly east to catch on to.
Now cut the line about two inches above the hemostats removing your spool of line. Slide the magnetic clasp on the line, small hole first, large hole out. This part is easy because the clasp will attach itself to the hemostats, and your jewelry is now entirely secure. Remember, you know where it is, because you left it attached to the magnetic clasp at the other end. Make your simple single over hand knot. Use your pliers to slide the knot down and pull it tight, but you don’t have to “fight” with it to get it right on top of the clasp, because remember, you pulled you’re jewelry tight to compensate for this and for the length of the clasp. Snip 1/8 inch above knot and burn end.
When you let go of the hemostats, the knot will get sucked into the middle of the magnetic clasp. Now the piece of jewelry is the perfect resiliency. Ta Da! It really is easy to do! It just takes a little practice.
And this is really the easiest and best way to do it. It’s why I can guarantee the construction of my jewelry; the import line and the method of attaching the magnetic clasp to the jewelry.
If, however, you’re not comfortable with it, you can get the thinner line and crimp as usual by buying the magnetic clasps with loops (4mm only), or if you use the 6mm magnetic clasps without loops you can actually use the method described above, but instead of knotting and burning, crimping the ends and placing the crimp bead inside the magnetic clasp. If you want to crimp using loops on the 6mm magnetic clasps which does not come with loops, simply add a T pin, cutting off excess and making a loop out of the end with your rosary pliers, and proceed as you usually would.
Magnetic Therapy - Most Often Asked Questions:
Provided by Magnets & More
Q. What is Magnetite?
A. Magnetite also known as lodestone is a naturally occurring magnetic stone and is not Hematite.
Q: What is the significance of electromagnetic fields?
A: Magnetic fields occur naturally and living cells depend upon them to assist in the maintenance of membrane potential. The earth and sun create a magnetic field. Human movement creates a magnetic field that stimulates body cells, hence the importance of exercise in health maintenance. Without the biomagnetic fields from the earth and sunlight, life would not be possible. Most important is that human movement generates a magnetic field, which brings about cell regeneration. This maintains the membrane potential at the ideal 70 to 90 mV levels.
Q: What is the relationship between magnetism and optimal human health?
A: Negative magnetic fields in our environment are created by radios, computers, cellular phones, and other equipment. This affects cell membranes, which in turn affect human health. Although positive magnetic fields are all around us and in us, interference with their balance is harmful. Human interference has disturbed the electrical potential of cell membranes, and disturbed cells do not function optimally. Human intervention, in the form of wearing magnetic jewelry, can restore the necessary balance.
Q. What will magnets heal?
A. Magnets do not do the healing; rather their magnetic energy provides the body with the necessary components to heal itself, as it was meant to do. When your body is healing itself properly, it does not pick and choose what it will heal. You simply become healthy, because you are in the process of healing all of the time, whether it's cellular, viral, bacterial, muscular, neural, even bruises, cuts, and burns have been proven to heal twice as fast.
Q. How much jewelry do I have to wear?
A. In theory, you can wear one piece and it will work on your entire body from the top of your head to the tip of your toes, because our body is what is called a closed caption system (the process our body uses to move blood throughout our body) with a pump (heart).
When we first meet someone, they are often skeptical and uneasy about buying their first piece of magnetic jewelry, so we do not apply any pressure to buy any more than one piece, although we will make recommendations if asked. Experience has shown us that once they prove to themselves that it does work, that they will happily come back over and over to buy more for themselves and friends and relatives.
However, if asked, we will reply - although one piece does work on the entire body, that it has been found that at least fifty percent of the problems and associated pain that people have with neck, shoulders, back, hips, knees, legs, varicose veins, spider veins, neuropathy, diabetes, and ankles is because we walk up right and pound our bodies into the ground every day. We were meant to walk barefoot in soft ground and grasses. Instead, we wear impossible shoes, often without ventilation or heels that tip us at an uncomfortable angle and we further stomp ourselves into the ground walking on asphalt and cement all day. Many work in buildings with cement floors and now more and more are living in homes with cement floors. In fact, almost ALL modern homes, even those with wood floors have cement underneath! Visualize your body as a skeleton. Every time you come down on cement you are literally banging each bone against itself all the way up to your teeth. It is no wonder that our feet hurt at night and very often our entire body!
Because of this daily and chronic abuse to our bodies, it is actually recommended that you wear either a bracelet or necklace, whichever you will wear all or most of the time, and an anklet. Not only will you be surprised how well this works, but most people do not take off their anklet, so you will be wearing magnets 24 hours a day, which is ideal. Also, very often men will not or cannot, because of their jobs wear jewelry. Believe it or not, they will wear an anklet, because they can hide it under their sock and no one will notice and it does not interfere with their job.
Q. I feel great. Why should I wear magnets?
A. That's wonderful, however, when a person comes down with a disease, they did not wake up that morning and get sick! Disease and ailments can take three to 20 years before they even start to make themselves apparent in your body. Isn't it better to stop the problem before it starts or at least before it is a problem. Besides, even if you do feel great most of the time, everyone is susceptible to colds, flu, burns, cuts, etc., and can use more brainpower, more energy and less stress in their lives!
Q. How does it work?
A. Just a few of the things it does: It increases blood circulation. The blood is supposed to make one circuit of the body once every 22 minutes. The average American has very sluggish blood, increasing the toxin build-up and diminishing the flow of blood. Number one cause of strokes is toxin build up in the carotid arteries. Number one cause of heart disease is toxin build up in the aortic arteries. Increased circulation moves these toxins into areas of the body that know how to get rid of toxins, so remember, drink plenty of water when you first start wearing magnets.
Increased circulation flushes toxins and oxygenates the blood. Science has shown that by simply oxygenating the blood that viruses can't live, bacteria can't live, and erratic cell replication cannot occur. In Europe there are Cancer Curing Clinics that all they do is oxygenate the blood.
With increased circulation, endorphins which are the "healing warriors", that once hung out dormant in joints now are forced to do their jobs, and they can't flow through the blood stream without doing what they do which is keep your body in a state of healing - bruises, cuts, burns, breaks, fractures, inflammation, etc., as well as disease, all heal faster. Boosts the immune system so that either you don't get colds or flu, or if you do they are not as debilitating, and you heal faster. It also releases chemicals to help you sleep better, relieves stress, depression, and melancholy, have more energy, improves memory, brain function and comprehension, and of course, pain diminishing body chemicals called encephalin.
Q. How long does it take to work?
A. It starts working as soon as you start touching it! Eighty percent of the population feels a substantial difference in their bodies in just one to 48 hours. Twenty percent do need two or three weeks. They are the type that when they notice the pain has stopped, can't tell you exactly when it did stop. Doctors have now proven that the effect is almost immediate. People just react differently.
Q. What if it makes me feel funny?
A. Most people do feel something strange or different within three to ten minutes of putting on magnetic jewelry. It could be warm even hot. You might feel the blood flowing, or some of their hair closest to the jewelry will stand straight up. Just relax. Your body will become accustomed to your new energy level usually within one to three hours, just as it has compensated for heart beating, eyes blinking, blood flowing, etc.
Q. What if it is actually painful?
A Use common sense. Magnets can't hurt you. You live in a magnetic field! If it does hurt, your body is telling you something and you'd better listen. It might be toxin build up so great that the increased blood-flow to the constricted area is painful. Similar to when you swallow too much at one time. If you can ascertain where it hurts, to expedite matters, you can tape a North Pole magnet on that area allowing for dilation of the area permitting the increased blood flow to flush out the toxins. Or simply take it off until you are almost asleep, and then simply slip it back on. By the time you wake up in the morning, your body will have adjusted to the stimulation and cleansing that is taking place. If there is extreme pain in your head or abdominal, or other areas, go to your physician. I am told this can be indicative of some kind of blockage.
Q. Do I have to wear it where it hurts?
A. No. Your blood circulates to your entire body, and in a healthy body it will go from your heart back to your heart once every 22 minutes or a total of 6.550 miles every 24 hours or the equivalent of crossing the U.S. four times. The key is to pick a piece of jewelry that you like, that fits the you like, that'll you'll enjoy wearing - then simply wear it!
Q. Why do therapists place magnets on specific areas?
A. Because either they are using North or South Pole polarity or because in a few instances people get more immediate benefits from magnets placed in this fashion. Also, they make more money by doing so!
Q. What works best, i.e. necklace, bracelet, or an anklet?
A. Listen to your body. Get what you'll wear. The closer to the painful area the better. However, get what you'll wear! Maybe a necklace would work better, but if you won't wear a necklace than it won't work at all! And then there are a few people where for some reason a bracelet will work better than a necklace or vice versus, but science, does not yet know why, and it may ultimately be a personal preference so strongly felt that the person believes it to be true.
Q. Should I wear a bracelet on my left or right hand?
A. Again, listen to your body. Wear it closest to the painful area. If there is no painful area, try it on your left arm first, because it is closest to your heart, and then "listen to your body"! Ultimately, you want to wear it where it's the most comfortable for YOU!
Q. Do I have to wear it all of the time?
A. Listen to your body. Your body replaces ever cell every 120 days. In fact, every minute more than three billion cells die, and are replaced. When wearing magnets, each cell is replacing itself with a healthier cell. If you do decide to take it off, just put it back on whenever you feel the need or discomfort.
Q. How does the money back guarantee work?
A. We ask that you simply give it a fair and equitable chance, like you would anything else. You must wear it 24 hours a day for 120 days. You just keep getting healthier and healthier. There is no way that it can’t work.
Q. Do the magnets have to touch my body?
A. No. Wear a piece of jewelry so it's comfortable for YOU! Magnetic density emanates approximately six inches away from its source. Ever use magnet a make something move without touching it? Or place one magnet on one side of your hand or arm and the other magnet on the other side? Our magnet-to-magnet earrings prove this - there's a lobe in between!
Q. Is wearing magnets safe?
A. The magnetic field produced by permanent magnets is a safe natural energy source. There are no known harmful exposure levels and no limitations by governmental agencies.
Q. Wouldn't a brace be better?
A. The only time a brace would be better is if the person will absolutely not wear any type of jewelry or if they need the physical support of the brace, i.e. back brace for lifting, knee or ankle brace for support. Braces have North and South polarity. They're hot, sweaty, get dirty, and their gauss rating is much lower than most of the jewelry in this catalog. Further, you probably wouldn't wear them to the beach, bed, shower, special occasion, etc. In fact, most braces get stuck in the closet and never get worn more than a couple of times. Magnetite jewelry can be worn 24 hours a day. You can wear it to do dishes, garden, shower or bath, and because it is beautiful jewelry, to any festive occasion or daily to work. You don't have to take it off! Also, the gauss rating is many times stronger than any brace!
Q. How do I care for my jewelry?
A. If it needs it, simply buff with a soft clean cloth. The metal jewelry is considered to be the quality of expensive costume jewelry, so treat it as you would your other costume jewelry. It’s gold or stainless plating on rhodium, which shields a copper core. Rhodium is considered a hypoallergenic metal.
Since the Pearls are a layer of real Pearl over the Magnetite, treat them as you would real Pearls, however, they are not fragile.
Q. How do they pearlize Magnetite?
A. The Pearls are created in an age old process called "shellies" derived from shell as a form, not a seashell. When natural Pearls are shaped and polished, there is a fine pearl powder that remains. This powder was layered with lacquer for a beautiful Pearl finish on lesser beads. This technique was improved by adding polymers, which is then bonded in a permanent finish on the Magnetite beads. You then have the elegance of Pearls with the therapy of magnets. A little bit more than the plain black beads, but well worth it, and infinitely less expensive than real Pearls.
Every women dreams of having “real Pearls. When they receive them, they lock them in safe deposit boxes or hide them, very rarely wearing them, afraid of damage or theft. Wearing the Magnetite Pearls is a beautiful and safe way to be elegant and pain free.
Q. Is Magnetite magnetized Hematite?
A. No, they are two entirely different stones. Hematite is a simple oxide that has turned to rust and then refossilized. Therefore, it is very brittle and splintery. It is Fe2 O3. Magnetite is a multiple oxide also called lodestone and is Fe3 O4.
(Editing Note: These numbers are supposed to be small and dropped, but I don't know how to do that).
Q. Why do some people call it magnetized Hematite?
A. Because of its appearance, it is easier (it really does look like Hematite), or they simply do not know any better. Dozens of companies in the U.S. and in Asia have attempted to magnetize Hematite, and have found it to be impossible. Hematite is not magnetic and cannot be magnetized! In fact, current Hematite products are not carved from Hematite, but are a bi-product of other industries using Hematite, which ends up with Hematite shavings, which are then melted and fused into jewelry or statues. Very often, they are then referred to as Hematine or Hemalite. If that same industry uses cobalt which is highly magnetic then the Hematite will have some magnetic quality, in that you can move it or possibly even pick it up with a magnet, but it will not of itself be magnetic, which means that it will not pick up iron or steel. To purposely place cobalt in Hematite to make it magnetic is cost-prohibitive as cobalt is a protected substance.
Note: If you still question whether Magnetite and Hematite are the same or similar, please see article at the end of the Questions and Answers.
Q. Where does Magnetite come from?
A. Magnetite is a natural occurring stone that is literally everywhere, because the Earth is a giant magnet. We have a magnetic force field that is a part of us. We therefore have a symbiotic relationship with the Earth. The Magnetite our jewelry is made from specifically comes from giant mines in Africa, because of ease of mining, then cut, polished, and magnetized for uniformity. When Magnetite comes out of the ground, it can be highly magnetic or have just a sleight magnetic force. Because of this process we are able to tell you the gauss rating of each bead and each piece of jewelry.
Q. Can Magnetite lose its magnetic charge?
A. Because magnetism is inherent to its being then it cannot lose its charge unless heated to hotter than 400 degrees at which point you have a greater concern than the jewelry you're wearing. Man made magnets can and often do lose their charge simply by dropping them.
Q. I have magnets and they didn't work?
A. You either didn't wear it, didn't wear it long enough, or the gauss was not strong enough. Remember it takes 120 days for every cell to replace itself, so give it a chance or you may have a "cuff". A cuff is a "C" shaped bracelet highly publicized by athletes on television that has two balls, one on each end of the "C" that is only 1,500 gauss each. 3,000 gauss is not enough for the vast majority. The average person needs 7,500 gauss or more to work.
Q. What if it doesn't work on me?
A. We have a Money Back Guarantee! Your doctor won't do that, because he can't. If it doesn't work on you, we'll give you your money back! All we ask is that you wear it 24 hours a day for 120 days. Remember, every cell replaces itself in just 120 days, but you'll feel a difference well before then. In six years of bringing magnets to you, we have never had to refund money to anyone that wore the magnets 12 days or longer.
Q. How will I find you?
A. We are simply a telephone call away and have been at the same place of business for twelve years. We ship via Post Offices and UPS all over the World.
Q. What if it breaks?
A. On the Magnetite jewelry we guarantee the construction. If it breaks at any time, whether it's your fault or mine, I will replace or restring it free of charge. If you purchased it at a Trade Show, simply bring it the next time you come or you can pay only $5.00 to help defray the cost of postage, shipping and handling fee. To expedite matters we usually just replace it.
Q. Will magnets hurt my watch, credit cards, cassette tapes, disks, cell phone, TV's, CRT screens, etc.?
A. The answer is yes and no. Yes, if you have a North or South Pole magnet that is strong enough. Remember, North or South polarity pulls or repels, but our Magnetite jewelry is uni-polar, which is circular energy, and although our linked bracelets are North Pole to the skin, they are not strong enough to damage any of the above and the magnets are located next to your skin.
Regarding watches, if it is a “wind up watch”, in theory, there could be a possibility that if the actual magnets got on top of the watch face and rode there that it could perhaps slow down the hands - maybe. On our own research and testing we have not had any problems.
Regarding modern watches, the watch-makers have said that the average watch has a warranty against electro-magnetic interference, even if it is not a written warranty, because today so many stores have burglar preventative devices that people walk through, whether they know it or not, that would stop or slow down a watch. Having said that, what we have found in practical application with our customers is that this is true 99 percent of the time. There is a one percent that cannot wear the bracelet on the same arm, as the watch for it will slow down and on some stop the watch. The watchmakers have no explanation for this. Our opinion is that that person’s electro-magnetic field when combined with the bracelet interferes with the watch. Simply wear the bracelet on the other arm.
Regarding, hotel keys with a magnetic strip, keep them away from not only your magnetic jewelry, but also the television or even any metal surface. As every person who regularly stays at hotels and motels has found, they are very easily and annoyingly de-magnetized. This is because unlike the magnetic strip on a credit card it is very, very thin, because those cards are meant as a disposable commodity.
